The Word

Let’s begin with prayer:  Father God, in the name of Jesus, please help us learn more about you.  Your Bible is truth.  Help us hear, learn and speak the truth.  Thank you God, for your Son Jesus.  Amen.

If I said “The Word” to you, what comes to mind?  Word Up – the song, or you might even say What word?  You might know that I’m talking about the Bible.

I want you to learn two things about THE WORD:

  1.  JESUS IS THE WORD.  That means that the Bible is Jesus written down.
  2. The WORD IS TRUTH.  That means that what the Bible says is true.

I want you to look in your Bible to a couple verses. First, in John chapter 1 verse 1, that’s easy to remember John 1:1, it says: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Wow the Word was God.  So when you hold your Bible in your hand, you are holding God in written form.

If you have a Bible that has titles to chapters and paragraphs, my Bible has the Title: The Word Became Flesh.

The Bible says that Jesus was with God in Heaven in the very beginning. And that God gave men the words to write down to be His Bible. He was writing about His Son, His Only Son.

The whole Bible from the very beginning to the very end talks about Jesus.

God knew that the world was going to need a Savior. Our Savior is Jesus and how he saves us is from our sins. God does not like sin.  So Jesus came to earth to take the WHOLE WORLD’S SINS AWAY.

God knew that everybody would need to know about Jesus and what he did with our sins so God had men write it down and that is how Jesus became THE WORD.

The second thing I want you to learn is the Word – THE BIBLE—is Truth. Now God does not lie.  He cannot lie.  He is God.

In John chapter 17 verse 17, that’s an easy one to remember too. John 17:17, it says “Sanctify them by the truth; your WORD IS TRUTH.”

Now I’m not going to start talking about lying and what a lie is, because I think we all know about lies.  If it’s NOT THE TRUTH – It’s a lie.

The Bible says that the WORD is TRUTH.  Here is a key, if you read your Bible, you will see that it is the truth and the truth will set you free. It sets you free from all kinds of things.

Jesus set us free from sin.

Jesus is the Word – or another name for the Bible.

Read your Bible and you will find Jesus.

Send me an email to CaptainCool@shoutministries.net and tell me about something you read in your Bible about Jesus.

Let’s close with Prayer:  You can say this prayer with me.

Dear God:  Thank you that you sent your Son Jesus as the Word of God. Thank you that you had men write down the Bible so I could read about Jesus. Thank you Jesus for taking away my sins on the Cross.  Amen

The Name

THE NAME

Let’s begin with prayer:  Father God, in the name of Jesus, please give us ears to hear and hearts and minds to learn more about you and the power of your name.  Hear our prayers and protect us too.  In the name of Jesus, Amen.

I take role at Sunday School.  Yesterday was a new session and I asked the kids their name. This time everyone wanted to be someone else, someone famous.  Here are their Sunday School names:

Sherlock Holmes

Luke Skywalker

Christopher WalkenZ (say the Z at the end), and

Spiderman

When you heard these names, you immediately recognized or had an image of who I was talking about?  You recognize who they are by what they have done.  Do you see how important a name can be?

Jesus is the name given to God’s son.  The name JESUS is in the Bible 1,478.  That’s a lot of times to have your name mentioned.

God gave Jesus his name that is far greater than even any angels’ name. Hebrews 1:4b.

Jesus’ NAME IS ABOVE ALL NAMES.  Philippians 2:9

Jesus name is so powerful that every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord.  Philippians 2:10-11.

The Bible tells us in Revelation 19 that Jesus is King of all kings and Lord of all lords.  That’s powerful.  Since Jesus is the King of all kings that’s why all knees will bend or bow to him in respect.

Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary, by the power of the Holy Spirit.  Jesus is God who came down from heaven.  God started out as a baby just like you and me.  But Jesus did not sin like you and me.

The Bible tells us:  Because God’s children are human beings – made of flesh and blood – Jesus also became flesh and blood by being born in human form.  For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the Devil, who had the power of death. Hebrews 2:14

Sometime you hear Jesus called Jesus Christ.  Christ is not Jesus’ last name.  Christ is a title and it means Messiah or Anointed One.  So Jesus Christ means Jesus the Messiah or the Anointed One.

Jesus name is powerful.  After Jesus died on the cross and rose from the grave, his disciples went around preaching and healing many people just by saying: “IN THE NAME OF JESUS be healed or stand up and walk.”

The Bible says in John 20:31:  “But these are written, that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the son of God; and that believing you might have life through his name.

God sent his son, Jesus, to earth to save us from our sins.  John 3:16 says “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

Another name for Jesus is Immanuel, which means “God with us!”

Another place in the Bible, Acts 4:12 says: “There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”

You can be saved from your sins too.  Do you believe in Jesus?  You can ask Jesus to come into your heart and give you faith to believe in him.  Then you will live with him in heaven one day.

What is YOUR name?  Does it have a meaning? Have you ever looked it up?  Ask your parents to help you.  You can Goggle your name on the computer and find out or try this website: http://www.behindthename.com/names/usage/biblical

Let’s Pray this echo prayer (that means you say what I say).

Dear God, in the name of Jesus, I believe in you, come into my heart, forgive my sins; I want to live with you in heaven one day.  Thank you God for your wonderful son, Jesus.  Thank you for being with us.  Amen.

The Blood

THE BLOOD

HELLO EVERYBODY:  Before we begin, let us pray.

Gracious Father, in the name of your Son Jesus, please help us learn more about you. Hear our prayers and protect us too.  Thank you Lord, Jesus. Amen.

I’m going to talk to you about BLOOD.  I know that may seem like a strange thing to talk about but the word BLOOD is in the Bible 447 times.  That must mean something.  What do you think of when I say Blood?  I think red.  Others may think life or death, or something gory and scary.

I asked my Sunday School kids about Blood.  This is what they said:

  1. All living things have it.
  2. There are three kinds of Blood – A, B, & O.
  3. Vampires drink it.

Well, I believe #1 and #2 are absolutely correct.

The Bible says in Leviticus 17:11 that the life is in the BLOOD.  That means things live because they have blood.  The second scripture I’d like us to look at is Hebrews 9:22 “Without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins.”  Remission is a big word and it means a payment.  That means that BLOOD the BLOOD of Jesus has taken away our sins.  God used the Blood of Jesus as payment for ALL the sins of the world.

John 3:16 says “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” (NLT)

Now you could look at the BLOOD of Jesus like the eraser on a giant chalkboard.  If you write on a chalkboard, you use an eraser to wipe everything away.  This is what the BLOOD of Jesus does with our sins.  When we ask God to forgive us of the things we have done wrong, they are all wiped away because of the BLOOD of Jesus.

Revelation 1:5 “…Unto him (Jesus) that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood.”

There is a story in the Bible where the Israelites were saved because they put BLOOD on the door posts and top of the door frame of their homes.

So because of the BLOOD of Jesus, we are saved.  This BLOOD is good BLOOD, it is the BLOOD of the Son of God who went to the cross and died there.  Then three days later he rose from the dead and went to heaven to prepare a place for you and me when it our time to die.

Do you believe in Jesus?  You can ask Jesus to come into your heart and give you faith to believe in him.  Then you will live with him in heaven one day.

So let us say this echo prayer (that means you say what I say).

Dear God, in the name of Jesus, I believe in you, come into my heart, forgive my sins; I want to live with you in heaven one day.  Thank you Lord. Amen
